Slap on some sunscreen and float on the heat from the asphalt and the hint of sea breeze off the Sumida this First Saturday, around Kuramae and other parts of Taito-ku. Be part of the “gathering of straw hats” at fabric and accessory store Salvia. Downstairs in the same building at Naoto and Kawauso there will be a charming exhibition by illustrator-mountain climber Megumi Ochiai. Almost next door, a little up the street toward Asakusa, you’ll find “Hawaiian bagels” and aloha atmosphere at Chie Nakagawa’s good-taste-as-always kitchenware and furnishing store in-kyo. Or head downriver and eat dark cherry muffins at Daily’s Muffin, or traditional Japanese sweets – and join in a silkscreen workshop – at Nui. Get 40 percent off a sofa at monokraft. And you’ll never know what you’ll find at the flea market at Newold Stock or well-worn genuine old things sourced from old houses at the joint antique fair by stores Waplus and Alloy.
